Akin Tangun/Portfolio/Reveal Box
A box of screens, a first in Canada.
The Reveal Box is a rotating box of screens that shows a product as if it stood inside. I worked out how the device works, led the team that built the prototype, and then wrote, modelled and animated a film for it promoting a Dior product. The same medium was presented for the Tom Ford brands.

The idea
Inspired by HUMAN ONE.
The starting point was HUMAN ONE, the kinetic video sculpture Beeple made in 2021: a box of screens that turns, with a figure walking inside it.
The first job was figuring out how a device like that works, and what it could do for a product instead of an artwork.

The device
Screens, a computer, and sensors.
Once I understood the device, I explained it to the tech team in terms they could build from: what kind of screens it needs, the sensors, and the computer that drives it.
That computer has to run four screens at once, so it needs a high performing graphics card and four HDMI outputs.
The tests
A walking character, to prove it could be done.
I built a walking 3D character in Blender to show the effect could be replicated, and ran the 3D tests on the prototype: the camera angle for each screen, and matching the frame rate of the picture to the turn of the box.
The first clip is that walking test. The second is the prototype running the Dior film.

For Dior
Written, modelled and animated.
For Dior I wrote the script, then modelled and animated the film in Blender. The finished animation was transferred to the screens of the box, which is where the 3D effect happens: the product appears to leave its packaging in mid air, inside the display.
This is experiential luxury marketing in the plainest sense. The product is not on a poster. It is in the room.
